Newmill was a small traditional market gardens created by Tom Mitchell in 1926 from an old farm; many of the names of the buildings stuck with the place until it was demolished in 1974 to build a major road interchange. The site was owned by the Kenneth family who were the local laird's owning coal mining and brickworks concerns.
